FATE/PROTOTYPE
While having very little interest in magic and Magi, in his life Jekyll had a strong interest, both philosophical and practical, in the fundamentals of human nature, believing all men contained both great good and great evil. Jekyll's research as a scholar led him in toward the discipline of alchemy and as a result he developed some skill and it is implied that he created the elixir Dangerous Game himself through experimentation, and it is this potion that allowed him to transform into Mr. Hyde. Perhaps Jekyll had been naive in his experiments to explore the two sides of human nature--the other self he transformed into, Mr. Hyde, turned out to be quite mad. Hyde lusted for violence and blood, claiming many innocent victims during his rampages through London. For Jekyll, a contest took place between his despair at innocents being slaughtered and how addictive the elixir became. While Hyde is an unreasoning mad man, Jekyll is intelligent, mature, patient, and kind person with a strong sense of justice. He's well-educated, thoughtful, polite, and a man of his Victorian time period. When he is summoned as a Servant by Kitano Tatsumi, a high school student with no history or knowledge of the Grail War, Jekyll sees an opportunity to try and atone for some of mistakes he made during his experiments as Hyde. Jekyll likes that humanity moves on while remaining unchanged, and says to Tatsumi that his desire is to become a hero of justice during this second chance he's been granted. Tatsumi and Jekyll shake on it: they will save Tokyo from the Grail War together. As a Servant, Jekyll is very weak, but he is unique for the Berserker class: he possesses a skill of concealment usually only accessible to the Assassin class. This allows Berserker to move undetected by other Servants and their Masters. This allows Berserker to get the jump on Archer in Akihabara, and Lancer in Shinjuku. It is this concealment skill that allows Berserker to enter the battle field in a private undergrowth in Suginami Ward undetected. On the outskirts of the Reiroukan estate, where her knows Lancer's Master Reiroukan Misaya resides, Jekyll decides it is time to enter the battle proper and drinks the elixir to transform himself into Hyde and gives up his cognitive functioning in exchange for massive power. Tatsumi is convinced that Jekyll doesn't want to kill anyone, but is driven to states of blind madness by the medicine. Tatsumi believes they have an understanding between them as Master and Servant, but communicating with Berserker once he has taken the elixir proves difficult. Berserker is able to break through the magical barrier surrounding the Reiroukan estate and enter the forest there in a blind rush, which draws a great deal of mana from Tatsumi waiting for him outside of the forest. Whilst trying to maintain Beserker's high energy demands and communicate telepathically, Assassin appears to Tatsumi on behalf of her new Master, Sajyou Manaka. Assassin kills Tatsumi by kissing him with poisoned lips. As Beserker breaks through Caster's barrier surrounding the Reiroukan estate, Reiroukan Misaya, the daughter of Caster's original Master, is investigating the tears in Caster's defensive barrier around the Reiroukan estate and forest. When Misaya realises Beserker is there, she sends a Familiar to her father and Caster in distress. While it seems Beserker is fully intent on killing all members of the Reiroukan family, including Misaya, the Servant does seem to be some conflicting feelings and shows some valance of cognitive capability. Before his death, Tatsumi tries to telepathically connect with Beserker to help him see reason and remind him that he doesn't want to kill anyone, let alone a child, and that doing so would make him no better than the Reiroukan family who don't care about the innocent civilians who will become collateral damage during the Grail War. Before any harm can come to Misaya, Saber appears to defend her from Beserker. Whilst Saber is checking in with Misaya, Beserker decides that he cannot face Saber in his weakened state after grappling with Caster's barrier and withdraws into the forest. With his Master dead Berserker's body begins to break down. Maintaining himself in his Hyde form takes a great deal of mana and he knows he will not be able to remain indefinitely as he has no way of producing mana himself. Despite knowing this, Berserker decides to continue with his and Tatsumi's mission to defeat Caster and his Master to protect Tokyo, especially knowing that Tatsumi's last thoughts were ones of concern for his Servant. As Berserker is making his final resolutions, Rider assaults the area overhead, with strong, sun-like rays beating down and making the night seem like day. Elsewhere, Saber, Lancer and Archer are also engaged in battle nearby. Berserker wonders specially about Rider, and whether such a Servant can be defeated, but defeating Rider is not Berserker's goal. Instead, Berserker tears his way through the forest, myopically focused on getting to Caster and the Mage commanding him. Suddenly, with Archer and Lancer following and still engaged in combat with him, Saber appears and confronts Berserker, saying they should engage Berserker and Saber the in battle one-on-one. However, the chaotic circumstances would not allow Berserker and Saber to have their duel as it were, and is instead interrupted by Lancer and Archer, still pursuing Saber. Berserker is forced into the open, where he is scalded by Rider's intense rays overhead, skewered by Archer's arrows, impaled by Archer, and finally pierced by Saber's sword. Berserker's more rational thoughts in these moments turn to Saber, how kind the other Servant had been to him despite the monstrous form. I want this fight! This is ours alone! Allow us to have it, please! Even after sustaining heavy damage, Berserker continues to swing out viciously at the other Servants assaulting him. But finally, it is too much to bear and Berserker extends his clawed hand to the sky. Maybe toward the moon, to Rider's ship flying above, or was he reaching skyward with thoughts of regret that his claws and Saber's blade couldn't have met in a noble battle? If nothing else, he could at least vanish from the plane he'd been summoned to by becoming a gust of warm, golden light, just as Saber's sword appeared to be. Berserker's outstretched hand dissipates beneath the golden light above them and is unable to fulfil his and Tatsumi's goal. FATE/GRAND ORDER
F/GO stuff will go here one day, but the most important thing is that in F/GO Hyde looks like Jekyll only with messier hair, no glasses, and red eyes and not the massive werewolf thing he is in Prototype. #1 important thing right there. So yeah, one day some actual info will go here, but not right now. sry! |
